One of our favorite neighborhood traditions is back!

Mark your calendars for the Poplar Estates Fall Festival on Saturday, October 24, at Poplar Estates Park. This annual gathering is a wonderful opportunity for neighbors of all ages to come together for an evening of fun, friendship, and community.

Whether you're new to Poplar Estates or have called the neighborhood home for years, the Fall Festival is the perfect chance to catch up with friends, meet new neighbors, and enjoy one of the most beautiful times of the year in our community.

We're putting the finishing touches on this year's event, including food, entertainment, and family activities, and we can't wait to share what's in store. Be sure to watch your email, neighborhood newsletter, and PoplarEstates.org for updates as plans are finalized.

As always, we'll ask residents to register in advance once details are announced so we can plan appropriately for everyone attending.

It's time to clean out the closets, organize the garage, and discover a few hidden treasures!

The Poplar Estates Neighborhood Yard Sale returns on Saturday, October 3, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This annual event attracts shoppers from across the Mid-South and is a great opportunity for residents to declutter, earn a little extra cash, and connect with neighbors.

Whether you're hosting a sale or searching for your next great find, we encourage everyone to join in the fun. From furniture and home décor to toys, books, clothing, and collectibles, you never know what treasures you'll discover throughout the neighborhood.

PEHA will help spread the word by promoting the event through neighborhood communications and online community channels to attract shoppers from around the area.

If you're planning to participate, consider organizing your items ahead of time, pricing everything clearly, and setting up early to welcome the first bargain hunters.

Cool Off and Celebrate the New School Year at Our Back-to-School Ice Cream Social!

Summer may be coming to an end, but we're not letting it slip away without one more opportunity to gather as a neighborhood!

The Poplar Estates Homeowners Association invites all residents to join us for our Back-to-School Ice Cream Social on Saturday, August 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Estates Park.

Whether you're celebrating a child's first day of kindergarten, sending a student off to college, or simply looking for a chance to spend time with friends and neighbors, this family-friendly event is the perfect way to wrap up the summer season.

We'll be serving fresh cheese and pepperoni pizzas from Marco's Pizza, along with soft drinks and an assortment of ice cream treats to help everyone beat the late-summer heat.

We're also excited to welcome Twisted Mister Rogers, who will be creating his amazing balloon animals throughout the afternoon. Kids (and kids at heart!) won't want to miss the chance to take home one of his colorful creations.

One of the things that makes Poplar Estates such a special place to live is the opportunity to get to know the people who live just around the corner. Our Ice Cream Social is designed to bring neighbors together in a relaxed, fun atmosphere where conversations happen naturally, friendships grow, and new residents feel right at home.

Whether you've lived in Poplar Estates for twenty years or just moved into the neighborhood this summer, we'd love to see you there. Bring your family, bring your appetite, and enjoy an afternoon of pizza, frozen treats, laughter, and great company.

Germantown Thrive 250

President William Haynes and Treasurer Trey Alberson represented Poplar Estates at the Neighborhood Leaders Social on August 4. The City of Germantown wanted to hear our perspectives on how Germantown should evolve over the coming decades.

We participated in a fun brainstorming exercise for the City's Comprehensive Plan project: Thrive Germantown 2050. This plan will be the city's blueprint for the next 20 years. We will share the details of all the interesting things discussed in our upcoming August digital newsletter, and will be sharing a link for our members to share feedback as well!

Beginning September 1, the Poplar Estates Homeowners Association (PEHA) will kick off its Annual Membership Renewal Drive, and we invite every household to be part of what makes our community such a special place to live.

PEHA is a voluntary homeowners association dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Poplar Estates. Membership dues directly support neighborhood events, beautification efforts, communications, advocacy, and the many activities that bring our community together throughout the year.

A Red, White & Blue Tradition: Poplar Estates Celebrates the Fourth Together

One of the best parts of living in Poplar Estates is the sense of community that comes from neighbors spending time together. This year's Fourth of July Bike Parade and Block Party was another wonderful reminder that some of our favorite traditions don't require elaborate plans—just great neighbors, plenty of patriotic spirit, and a beautiful summer morning.

Residents began gathering around 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Corsica and Pecan Trees, where bicycles, scooters, wagons, and strollers were decked out in red, white, and blue. Before long, the neighborhood was filled with smiles, laughter, and the excitement that only Independence Day seems to bring.

At 10:45 a.m., our parade rolled through Poplar Estates as families lined the streets to wave, cheer, and celebrate together. From the youngest riders experiencing their very first neighborhood parade to longtime residents who have participated for years, it was a wonderful display of community pride.

Following the parade, neighbors gathered for our annual Block Party. Families visited with one another, children continued playing together, and everyone enjoyed taking a break to celebrate our nation's 250th birthday with friends old and new.

One highlight of the morning was the opportunity to recognize and thank the first responders who help keep our community safe throughout the year. Poplar Estates Homeowners Association was proud to provide meals and drinks as a small gesture of appreciation for their service and dedication.

Events like these don't happen on their own. They are made possible by residents who volunteer their time to organize, set up, coordinate, and help everything run smoothly. Thank you to everyone who volunteered behind the scenes and to everyone who came out to participate. Your enthusiasm is what makes these traditions so special.

The Fourth of July Bike Parade continues to be one of Poplar Estates' favorite annual traditions because it reminds us that a neighborhood is more than just a collection of homes—it's a community. Whether you decorated a bicycle, waved from your front yard, volunteered your time, or simply enjoyed visiting with neighbors afterward, you helped make the morning memorable.

We hope you'll join us again next year as we continue building traditions that bring our neighborhood together.

Poplar Estates Awarded 2026 Germantown Neighborhood Grant

Poplar Estates Homeowners Association is pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of six recipients of the2026 Germantown Neighborhood Grant.

This year, the City of Germantown received 24 neighborhood grant applications, and Poplar Estates was awarded$4,780 to support our neighborhood communications plan thanks to the hard work of your officers! These funds will help cover website hosting, membership management tools, and more frequent printed newsletters for our community.

For a neighborhood of more than 900 households, communication matters. While many residents now expect updates through email, social media, text, and the web, we also know that printed newsletters remain an important way to reach established neighbors who prefer traditional communication. This grant allows us to strengthen both approaches at the same time.

The award will help PEHA expand resident engagement, improve neighborhood awareness, and support leadership development by giving neighbors more consistent ways to stay informed, participate, and connect with one another.

We are grateful to the City of Germantown for investing in strong neighborhoods and for recognizing the importance of clear, inclusive communication across our community. Thank you as well to the volunteers and PEHA members who help keep Poplar Estates connected, informed, and moving forward.

May and June PEHA Yard of the Month Winners

Churchill Downs, our June 2026 YOTM winners. Our neighborhood is wonderful because of all the work neighbors like the Conolos and Kents put into it and we are grateful.

Fourth of July Bike Parade: Volunteers Needed

Poplar Estates has a long tradition of celebrating Independence Day with our annual Fourth of July Bike Parade, and we would love to see that tradition continue with the same neighborhood spirit that has made it special over the years.

This has historically been a volunteer-driven event, with neighbors stepping up to cook, help plan, organize, decorate, set up, clean up, and keep things running smoothly. We recently shared a SignUpGenius to gather volunteer support for this year’s parade, but as of Tuesday, we do not yet have any volunteers signed up.

To keep the event going in its traditional form, we need neighbors who are willing to help lead it and take ownership of key pieces of the day. That might include organizing volunteers, helping with parade setup, coordinating refreshments, or simply being available before and after the event to lend a hand.

Without additional volunteer leadership, PEHA may need to simplify the event in the future. One option we are considering is bringing in food trucks, either for food or desserts, so that the celebration can continue in a more manageable way with less volunteer coordination required. We would love your feedback.

We Need Your Help - Call for Volunteers

This grant gives us a stronger megaphone, but the best neighborhood stories still come from neighbors.

PEHA is looking for volunteers to help us find and share interesting story ideas for future newsletters. That might include a feature about a longtime neighbor, a new family on the block, a student doing something great, a local volunteer, a community concern, or even a look back at the history of Poplar Estates.

We’d also love to receive photos from neighborhood events, seasonal decorations, yard projects, block parties, or other moments that help tell the story of our community.

Have an idea, a photo, or a little Poplar Estates history tucked away in a drawer? Send it our way. The more neighbors who contribute, the more our newsletter can reflect the full character of Poplar Estates: past, present, and porch-light glowing future.

Summer Movie Nights Coming to Poplar Estates

PEHA is planning a new monthly summer movie night series for Poplar Estates neighbors, hosted in PEHA President William Haynes' front yard.

The idea is simple: a relaxed summer evening, a family-friendly movie, snacks, refreshments, and a chance for neighbors to spend time together outside the usual rush of daily life. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs, bug spray, and your best “I hope the popcorn lasts” optimism.

Our June movie night was unfortunately rained out, but we’re hoping for better weather in July.

Earlier this week board members from Poplar Estates and Riverdale Farms Condos met with assistant city administrator Andy Sanders, Alderman Hicks, GPD and city staff to discuss traffic issues in the neighborhood. We appreciate them listening to our concerns and working on solutions. Soon you will see new 25 mph speed limit signs on some neighborhood streets. Also the Germantown Police Department will be doing directed enforcement in the area. We need everyone’s help to keep the neighborhood safe. Slow down G'Town

PEHA Annual Chili Cook Off

Great night at the Poplar Estates 2023 chili cook off. We had 13 chili entrees in the competition and over 50 people in attendance.

Congratulations to Lisa Cantor! Her chili won first place and she received a certificate for a free smoked ham from PEHA. We would also like to thank Biggby Coffee & Vanelli's Deli for gift certificates for the other prize winners.

Mr. Billy Brown was honored with a lifetime service award from the Poplar Estates Homeowners Association. “In appreciation of your outstanding contributions to our neighborhood and unending involvement in the association.“

Germantown Up Front Article Featuring Poplar Estates "The spark that brings people together"

Among the tree-lined streets of Poplar Estates, the neighborhood’s more than 900 families enjoy a rare type of fellowship that’s not often found in America’s bigger cities. There, neighbors join for neighborhood music and singalong concerts, Fourth of July bike parades, picnics, chili cookoffs, pancake breakfasts and back-to-school ice cream socials, to name just a few annual events.

“Our thoughtful and considerate neighbors, the beautiful mature trees, the park at the end of our street and the pride of ownership here all serve to make living in Poplar Estates a dream,” resident Allison Holden said. “Poplar Estates is a humble gem, not just in Germantown, but in the whole county.”

For HOA secretary Trey Alberson, the neighbors make all the difference.

“Our neighbors make Poplar Estates the best neighborhood in Germantown!” he said. “We have great friends up and down our street that we know we can count on. We look after each other, making Poplar Estates incredibly safe.”

Whether it’s through community gatherings or evolving technology, the HOA works hard to keep all the neighbors connected and promote a sense of togetherness.

“Besides our social events, we publish a newsletter twice a year that is mailed to every resident in our neighborhood,” outgoing HOA President Christopher Schmidt said. “We recently integrated a new website, communications, payment system and membership database onto an online management system to make it easier to reach our members with news and events reminders. We also post this information on social media to keep our Poplar Estates community members informed in as many ways as possible.”

One recent bit of exciting news was the renovation of the subdivision’s front entrance. Planning for the project began in fall 2019, with early design concepts by Solo Landscaping. A design was then presented to residents at the neighborhood’s annual Chili Cookoff in February 2020. Once approved, the renovation began in September 2020 and was initially completed late that fall. Due to moisture issues that developed over the course of 2021, the HOA painted the slurry coat this past winter and finally received approvals for the new entry signage - a modern black font against white brick - in July.

“The Poplar Estates board and committee members had been discussing this project for several years, due to the existing landscaping needing to be replaced while also trying to refresh the entrance brick wall,” Schmidt said. “The ‘Old English’ style of architectural brick work, although iconic, did not necessarily reflect the generational change that Poplar Estates has seen during the past several years, so our goal was a timeless, yet impactful, refresh that has been well received by our community.”

When photos of the finished product were posted on Facebook last weekend, the response from residents was overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as “Love the updated look!,” “It looks amazing! Thanks to everyone who helped make our neighborhood entrance look so great” and “Classy update! Thank you!”

With regular events, consistent communications and an engaged community on social media, the Poplar Estates HOA is an example of a neighborhood association that’s hitting it out of the ballpark. Schmidt says the key to success is simple: just do it.

“Homeowners Associations are, at their core, a way to bring your community together for fellowship to develop lasting relationships across your neighborhood,” Schmidt said. “Germantown is such a wonderful and exceptional community with incredible neighbors who are willing to help and donate their time to build a stronger neighborhood. Someone just has to reach out and ask to be the spark to bring people together.”

The Poplar Estates front entry signs were installed this week after our approval during last months City of Germantown Design Review Commission July Meeting. PEHA would like to thank Mayor Mike Palazzolo, Alderman Jon McCreery and Economic & Community Development Director Cameron Ross for all the help the past several months working worth through an agreement with MLGW for all of our improvements (long story). Finally, thank you to all of our residences for your patience with our nearly two year front entry renovation that we can finally call complete!

Poplar Estates Park Bluebird Trail update

In 2018 the Poplar Estates HOA, in partnership with the Poplar Estates Garden Club, established a bluebird trail at the park with three bluebird site locations. 2022 was a banner season with 38 eggs laid, 25 hatched & 22 fledged in helping to increase the eastern bluebird population in our community.

Street & Traffic Signs Bases Repainted

In May, Mayor Mike Palazzolo, Vice Mayor Mary Anne Gibson, City Administrator Jason Huisman, and Police Chief Hall met with your Poplar Estates Board of Directors for an open conversation about our city and neigborhood. One item that came from this discussion was the repainting of our decorative street & traffic signs. Last month the City of Germantown Public Works Crew repainted all of our bases through out Poplar Estates. This is just one small example of how our city leadership & staff truly care, listen & react regarding our community. Thank you, Mayor Mike, Mary Anne, Jason, Chief Hall & Bo Mills!

Fourth of July Parade!

Hundreds of Poplar Estates residents gathered Monday to celebrate Independence Day with their neighbors. The festivities began with the annual block Bicycle Parade, led by the Germantown Fire and Police Departments. Afterwards, the children played in the fire hose spray while Pit Master Bob and a small army of volunteers served up barbecue. Special thanks to Joanna Young for continuing to organize this awesome event for our neighborhood!

City of Germantown's 2022 Neighborhood Summit
